I'm currently held away from most of my artwork, but atleast I had smuggled a small bundle away in preparation. I have just taken a break from my drawing desk, scanning my work on my computer, I can get a peek at what I has been accomplished so far today. The following is three images collaged together (with the help of photoshop) into one. Just thought I'd share.

No one's interested in something you didn't do.

It has been along time since I have posted anything on my blog. It began as a college blog, showing my progress through the Visual Creative Arts program at Sheridan. But I have been done with school for 2 years now, so this blog must evolve or perish. For now this is undecided. I have always felt that creative urge surging through my lobes, I cant fight it and am driven to get these stories and images out of my skull onto paper.

For now I will post some of my personal work from 2007 - the first half of 2010, collected from my hard drive and various online sites.

First some comic book reproductions. I tried to learn and emulate the styles of other artists to improve my own skills. Along the way learning what I liked about they did and what I didn't. I started to collage some of their work together to create my own interpretations. Example being the first image on the left, a 4 part comic series ( Separation Anxiety), where I merged all 4 covers into one Image.

I am a star wars nerd, well science fiction nerd in general. I stumbled upon the late Carlos Meglia's work during Star Wars the Yavin Vassikila series. His imagery resembled a hybrid graphic/anime look, neither of which I was ever really attracted to. I redrew and collaged images based upon some of the characters from the series in his style. I then redrew and created a collage based upon Marvel comics character Cletus Kasady aka Carnage, a deranged serial killer. I choose images depicting his youth. The killing of the family dog with a drill, the resulting knife fight with his mother, ending with her death by hammer and his fathers death by electric chair and finally the stair pushing incident of his grandmother.

Early in 2010 I redrew my drawing from years past of Venom Vs Carnage Unleashed, in my own image. Depicting the fact that without evil we would not have good, we are all good and evil in some way. One cannot exist without the other, good and bad will always go hand in hand. The caption could be interpreted in different ways.

To me it's my stab at the catholic church, where a person can confess their sins and be "saved". Sins are sins, theivery and murder are essentially equal in that sense. So according to their beliefs, once someone murders someone else they can confess it to a priest and be forgiven. Allowing them to murder over and over again. So wash the blood from my hands so I can fill them up again, with blood.

The last image is part of an idea I am currently working on now, a Science Fiction themed idea. I will explain more about this later in a future post, along with work from the second half of 2010 and the first half of 2011.

Lastly is a video of some animation work I have done up until the first half of 2010. I always wanted to work in the animation industry, that was the whole point of going to Sheridan. I thirsted for the training that they supposedly offer, but never met the entrance grade. This didn't discourage me as I still have tried to learn the principals of animation myself. This video will show some of my private work from 2007 until the first half of 2010. I will post my second half of 2010 and first half of 2011 at a later date.

Between the darkness of the past and the shining ray of light of the future, falls a shadow.

Our beginnings are known, the day, the place, even some know the exact time.
Our end is also known, maybe not how or when but the outcome will be without debate.
But the here and now is unknown, what is happening or what is about to happen is unknown. That uncertainty, the unknown is what life is worth living for.

The past is unchangeable, we can glimpse back but will never be able to see it from the same perspective we once did. It must be accepted and digested to live and indulge in the uncertainty of the now.

The future and all of the unknown shadows that are cast by its' light, give birth to all those feelings that are worth living for.

Indulge in the unknown of the now, before you have to settle with the predetermined.

Only in our times of great joy and great pain do we really known we are alive. Charish these moments equally and thirst for the time when you may feel them again.

After 6 long weeks I present ... "The Fly"

After six long weeks, many sleepless nights I completed my first animation, with no training in animation. Throughout this process I had the opportunity to experience all the aspects of animation myself all at the same time. Sometimes feeling alittle overwhelmed, but in the end my passion helped me push through it and get it all together in the end. Somethings were cut because of issues I had with the time available to work, including an entirely different scene involving a cat and a whale. Somethings like the weeds moving, was cut from 15 frames down to 5 because of time issues. I also tried to use hold cells at a minimum, to try and train my hand to be steady, it was a very rewarding experience. I tried to keep it as traditional as possible, using an old fashioned pencil and paper.

After all the hard work I went to class eager to see what others had created, but more importantly to see how my animation was received, this was like a test screening. After the first group of presentations I clapped and sat back maybe alittle to comfortably, because before I knew it the lights were turning on and everyone was leaving class. I had fallen asleep !

So, I now present my creation, like a child to the world, I know it won't be all "O look at the baby, you've gotta see the baby" or " ... that babies breath taking.", there will be alot of negative things said as well. But only by getting a good mixture of the good and the bad can we really grow as artists, so I ask of you what do you think ?

I treated this experience as seriously as possible, because after all, I hope to someday be a professional animator. With no one to guide me, I will have to be tough on myself to refine my abilities, to be able to compete with artists who have degree's worth of experience.
